Get Kids Into Surveying - Resources

Land Surveying is an old and established profession which has been shared by many of this nation's founders. Surveyors use history, math, science, technology and good ole-fashioned sleuthing to create detailed maps of our town, cities, community and our world!

In order to secure the future of the Land Surveying profession, we need to inspire a new generation of surveyors. This can be accomplished by reaching out to local schools and attending career fairs to get the next generation interested in a Geospatial career.

The New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors (NYSAPLS), along with the Get Kids into Survey campaign, have begun to put together resources to help you explore how Land Surveying can be an exciting career, as well as how to incorporate it into your daily geography teachings or lesson plans!

Lesson Plan: This lesson plan is geared towards 4th & 5th graders. If you have questions, please feel free to contact our Young Professionals Committee at

Get Kids Into Survey: Get Kids into Survey is a campaign with a mission to educate, excite and inspire the next generation of survey professionals. Their website offers additional resources for teachers and parents, such as coloring sheets, posters, quizzes and even a comic book!  These resources are all designed to help incorporate Land Surveying into the everyday geography lesson.
