Meet the 2018 Nominees!

At the September 15th Board of Directors meeting, the NYSAPLS Nominations Committee announced the slate of candidates for 2018 NYSAPLS officer positions. 


Here's a little bit more about each:


Greg J. de Bruin, for President

Greg de Bruin is Vice President of Gayron de Bruin Land Surveying and Engineering, PC, a woman-owned business based in Long Island. He is licensed as both a Land Surveyor and a Professional Engineer but has spent much of his career developing software and methodologies to attempt to change both professions. Greg is a former president of: NSCE, Nassau County Chapter of the NYSSPE, and Long Island Branch of the ASCE.

Daniel E. Marvin, for Executive Vice President

Daniel E. Marvin, PLS is employed with Marvin Land Surveying, a family owned business located in Lake Placid, N.Y. Dan was licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in New York in 2006. In 2012 and 2013, Dan served as Secretary of NYSAPLS. Dan also serves on the Education and Finance Committees. He is a past President, Vice-President, and Secretary of Northern New York Association of Professional Land Surveyors.

Kenneth M. Slaugenhoupt, for Vice President

Currently I am a part-time Marketing Director for Niagara Boundary and Mapping Services located in Lewiston. With my wife Esther, I love to travel and after completing visits to all fifty states, we are trying to visit different countries and enjoying the breadth of our planet. I look forward to serving NYSAPLS in our professional lives state wide and to meeting both old and new friends as we strive together. “Retirement” is busy being Vice Chairman of the Village of Lewiston Historic Preservation Commission and a member of the BOD for the Historic Association of Lewiston.

Roy B. Garfinkel, for Secretary

Roy B. Garfinkel, PLS has been employed at Costich Engineering and Land Surveying for over 28 years. He is currently President of Genesee Valley Land Surveyors Association and also serves on the GV Standards committee. He also serves on the NYSAPLS Ethical Practices Committee. As a Land Surveyor in New York State, Roy feels that he is part of a historical and honorable profession.

Jeremy E. Thompson, for Treasurer

Jeremy Thompson is a 1997 graduate of the NYS Ranger School in Wanakena.  He has been employed with Lafave, White & McGivern for 17 years. Jeremy currently serves as a member of the NYSAPLS Board of Directors (BRVAPLS), and has served for several years on the NYSAPLS Education Committee.  He is the president of his local School Board of Education (Clifton-Fine Central School District), Councilman for the Town of Fine, and member of his local Lion’s Club and Cub Master for his local Cub Scout pack. He resides in St. Lawrence County with his wife Marcy and two children, Lily and Benjamin.

Rodney L. Carey, for Treasurer


Rodney L. Carey, became licensed as land surveyor in NY in 1985. He attended Broome Community College and received an AAS in Civil Technology in 1977, and later served as an adjunct professor from 2002-2003. He served his country in the Navy, Navy Reserve, National Guard and Army Reserve from 1971-2012. He is currently the Survey Manager at Keystone Associates, LLC, where he has been employed since 2006. He is a member of NYSAPLS, currently serving on the Membership Committee and Board of Directors (STALS). He is the current Secretary of STALS, previously serving as their President, Vice President and Treasurer. 

Ballots will be mailed to regional presidents this week and tallied at November board meeting.
