Dear NYSAPLS Members and Friends:

n Friday May 15, the NYSAPLS Ad-Hoc Minimum Technical Standards Committee submitted their revised draft of the Proposed Minimum Technical Standards as a handout to the NYSAPLS  Board of Directors (B.O.D.) during the online B.O.D. meeting. A motion was made by Tom Cerchiara, seconded by Don Stedge to distribute the revised Standards to the NYSAPLS membership and to all New York State licensed Land Surveyors that can be reached, and to allow a membership vote in September to attempt to move these Standards forward towards legislation. The motion carried with a 16-1 vote in favor of allowing this motion.

The goal of the Standards Committee is to have the NYSAPLS membership vote in September to support the proposed Standards for the purpose of working with the New York State Board of Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists and NYSAPLS’ Counsel to seek legislation of the Standards within the State.

This does not mean in any way that the September vote is for NYSAPLS to adopt these Standards. This is only to seek member support for NYSAPLS to pursue the legislation of the Standards with the State of New York.

We are sending out a copy of these proposed Minimum Technical Standards (MTS) in two forms:

  1. Revised proposed MTS - clean copy (download here)
  2. Revised proposed MTS - marked up copy (download here)

Plans are being made by the NYSAPLS Ad-Hoc Minimum Technical Standards Committee to hold an informational webinar a few weeks prior to the September vote to discuss and promote the Proposed Minimum Technical Standards and the positive affect that we expect these Standards to have upon our profession.

Further detail regarding the vote and the webinar will be announced later this summer. In the meantime, we wanted to give everyone plenty of time to review the documents.
