At the September 20th Board of Directors meeting, the NYSAPLS Nominations and Awards Committee announced the slate of candidates for the 2020 NYSAPLS officer positions.

Here's a little bit more about each:

Daniel E. Marvin, for President

Daniel E. Marvin, LS is employed with Marvin Land Surveying, a family owned business located in Lake Placid, NY.  Dan has worked as a Land Surveyor since completing his Bachelor of Science in Surveying and Engineering Technology at Alfred State in 1995.  He has held a license as a Land Surveyor in New York since 2006.  Since 2012, Dan has served as an officer of NYSAPLS.  He has been an officer of the Northern New York Association of Professional Land Surveyors in various positions.  He is currently the Treasurer.  At the present time, Dan also serves as a member of the Board of Education for the Lake Placid Central School District where his two teenage children attend.  He has been happily married to his beautiful wife, Lisa, for 17 years.

Kenneth M. Slaugenhoupt, for Executive Vice President

Currently I am a part-time employee for Niagara Boundary and Mapping Services, in Lewiston working for my Son Lee. Each day brings something different, but I enjoy keeping my hand in the business. My wife Esther and I continue to travel and last year we visited the countries of the Baltic, including two days in Russia. We have eighteen grandchildren and keeping in touch with them is a full-time job I enjoy thoroughly. I have been involved with NYSAPLS since 1980 and am committed to giving back to the profession that has meant so much to me through the years. Currently I serve on the Finance and Public Relations Committees and I hope if you and I have not yet met, you will say hi whenever or where ever you see me.

Roy B. Garfinkel, for Vice President

Roy B. Garfinkel, LS is Branch Manager of BME Associates Geneva office. Roy has worked as a Land Surveyor in western NY for over 30 years. He is a former President of the Genesee Valley Land Surveyors Association, as well as their former Standards Committee Chairman. Roy is currently chairman of the NYSAPLS ad-hoc Minimum Standards Committee and former member of the NYSAPLS Ethical Practices Committee. As a Land Surveyor in New York State, Roy feels that he is part of a historical and honorable profession.

Jeremy E. Thompson, for Treasurer

Jeremy Thompson, LS is the new Surveying Instructor at The Ranger School in Wanankena. Prior to accepting the position at the Ranger School, Jeremy worked for LaFave, White & McGivern, L.S., P.C. (LWM) out of their Theresa Office for almost 20 years.  During his time at LWM Jeremy worked his way from a field technician, into the office, and ultimately became licensed in 2007, at which time he took over the position of Surveying Supervisor for LWM.  Jeremy has played an active role in NYSAPLS over the years, including serving as the immediate past Treasurer for NYSAPLS (2017-2019), serving as a current member on the Education Committee and as a Director for the Black River Valley Association of Professional Land Surveyors (BRVAPLS).  Along with his professional endeavors, Jeremy is actively involved in his local community.  He currently serves as the President for his local School Board of Education, he sits on his local Town Council, he is a member of the local Lion’s Club, he is the Cub Master for the local Cub Scout Pack, in the summer he is a softball coach for the local youth commission and in the winter months he coaches for the local youth hockey association.  The only way Jeremy can actively participate in so many things is with the unwavering love and support of his amazing wife Marcy and their two wonderful children, Lily & Benjamin.
