The Land Surveyor’s Education Bill (A.3937-A / S.6316), supported by NYSAPLS, sponsored by Assemblywoman Hyndman and Senator Stavisky, passed by both houses of the NYS Legislature yesterday. The legislation would eliminate the all-experience pathway to licensure as a professional land surveyor in New York State.  Instead, if enacted, this bill would create an education pathway requiring a bachelor’s degree or higher in land surveying, with the ability for the State Education Department to accept an associate’s degree in land surveying or an associate’s degree or higher in engineering, math, or related science with credits in land surveying.  It also modifies the current experience requirements outlined in the education law, allowing for the Department to develop regulations outlining satisfactory practical experience requirements.

We are hopeful the bill will be signed by the Governor soon. We will be sure to keep you updated.
