NYSAPLS PR Update

As a member of NYSAPLS, you are most likely aware we recently contracted with a professional public relations firm (Gramercy Communications) in February of this year to help promote our association’s goals and the surveying profession as a whole.

Since the beginning of February, NYSAPLS' staff and PR committee members have met bi-weekly with Gramercy to continually work on our PR strategy while the firm conducted extensive research. The research included a member survey, in-depth interviews and an audit of our website and social media accounts.

Meanwhile, they have also assisted us in kicking off some of the PR committee’s initial campaign goals, such as assistance in promoting National Surveyors Week and NYSAPLS’ Photo Contest (winners to be announced soon), creating a more streamlined social media presence, and proactively engaging in various media outlets. In addition, NYSAPLS is sponsoring a New York version of the “Get Kids into Survey” posters and working on a campaign to get it in the hands of local legislators.

Gramercy has recently wrapped up their research phase and will be sharing a comprehensive report with our members in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we wanted to share the media traction we had with our first “Op-Ed” article authored by President de Bruin. The piece highlights the importance of hiring a professional land surveyor. Gramercy’s strategic media outreach resulted in placements in four regionalized publications, ultimately expanding the reach of the NYSAPLS message on the importance of land surveying.

The article was featured in the following publications:

This truly is only a “snapshot” of things to come… stay tuned!

PS – Did you know NYSAPLS has an exhibit booth and promotional materials available to members to use free of charge? We encourage you to seek opportunities in your local area (such as high school career fairs, home shows, and conferences related to the profession) in which you can display the booth and further our message on the importance of professional land surveying. Interested in reserving the booth? Call our office today, 518-432-4046.
