NYSAPLS members, friends and Shaw family members gathered at the Evergreens Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY on Sunday, April 22, 2018 to install a Final Point in honor of NYSAPLS Past President, Malcolm M. Shaw (served office 1986-1987). Malcolm passed away on October 23, 2015. The Final Point, a project of NSPS, is a tribute to those unique and special surveyors who have helped to serve the profession so well.

The marker was a beautifully engraved, solid 4” bronze disk including the latitude and longitude of Malcolm’s final resting point.  The current NYSAPLS president, Greg de Bruin, along with three past presidents Robert Smith, Glennon Watson and Patricia Brooks (who currently serves as the NY Director for NSPS) helped with the installation. Together, members, friends and family enjoyed a beautiful spring day to memorialize Malcolm’s contributions to the profession.

President de Bruin noted “We had a nice crowd show up and it was a beautiful morning.  I don’t think there’s ever been a 2’ long monument set with such a large and diverse crew pitching in (age range from 9 to 75). After photos were complete, we all hung around for another 45 minutes, reminiscing.  Coffee, donuts and bagels were served from the tailgate of a pickup truck.  Yes, we had breakfast in a cemetery.  Nobody seemed to want to leave.”
