From Drone to Linework: So You Have Thousands of Photos ... Now What?

LS NY CE Hour 1.0
- PENDING
Using a drone as a survey data collection tool leads to massive time savings in the field. However, if this field time savings comes at the cost of a large increase in office time, then the value is dramatically reduced. Using a drone as an effective survey tool requires being able to use the drone data to produce final survey linework, efficiently, accurately, and consistently. Aerotas has learned the hard way what it takes to efficiently process data into CAD linework, providing drone data processing on thousands of projects for hundreds of surveyors. In this seminar, Aerotas will share best practices for getting from raw photos to final survey linework. Attendees will walk away with concrete lessons on workflow options for drone data processing, including trade-offs for each step of the process from raw photos to 3D model to CAD linework to final survey. The talk will include real-life case studies to make the lessons concrete, including common mistakes and oversights. This seminar will be most valuable for CAD technicians, in-office surveyors, and survey business decision makers.

Seminar Goals and Objectives

  1. Implement an optimal workflow from drone data to final CAD linework, including options and trade-offs at each step of the process.
  2. Define what accuracy means when it comes to drone data and how to measure error with drone data.
  3. Identify most common causes of failure and sources of error in drone data processing.
