The Future City Competition is a national, project-based learning experience in which 40,000 students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade from 1,350 schools imagine, design, and build cities of the future. Students work as a team with an educator and engineer mentor to plan cities using SimCity™ software, research and write solutions to an engineering problem, build tabletop scale models with recycled materials, and present before judges at regional competitions in January.

NCEES has supported the special prize for Best Land Surveying Practices for the past couple of years. You could always find out more at futurecity.org

This year’s competition challenge is –The Age-Friendly City—asks students to identify an issue older people have and engineer two innovative solutions so they can remain active and independent.
