Consolidated Edison of New York Inc., is looking to hire a Survey Tech / Survey Instrument Person, for a full-time position in Staten Island, New York. This is a union position - Utility Workers Local 3 position, and all Union benefits, sick time, and vacation time, and retirement packages included. Surveying work will include utility surveying, pole staking, and underground utility locating, mostly underground electric facilities. This candidate will also be trained to use an M-Scope utility locator, experience in underground locating a plus. For this position a two-year technical degree is required. (Surveying technology, civil technology or related disciplines) is preferred, or equivalent work experience. Survey techs must be capable of operating various survey instruments (total stations, data collectors, levels, M-scopes, etc.).
Candidates should also have competency in the use of AutoCAD in order to generate various types of drawings. This applicant will also need to pass a company developed Survey Tech Skills and Knowledge entrance exam, in order to be interviewed for this position.Survey Technicians assist surveyors with mathematical computations and field sketches. Applicants selected for this position must have strong oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with other departments, including various city and state agencies relative to land records, easement grants, and topographical data. Applicants must have the ability to learn advanced survey and mapping software.
Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to use a personal vehicle. Reimbursement from company mileage procedure applies. Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold conditions. Selected applicants must be able to respond to emergencies and must be medically approved to wear a half-face respirator. This job requires extensive walking, standing, and stair/ladder climbing. Must be able to push, pull, and lift equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
