Drone Mapping: The Complete Workflow

NY CE: 1.0 LS/PE

Flying a drone is easy, but integrating a drone into your business and workflow is hard. In this talk and demo, we will walk through key lessons and watch-outs for surveyors integrating drones into their operations. A critical challenge that leads many surveyors to fail in their drone program is not having the right workflow for getting to their final line-work survey deliverables. At this talk, we will do a live technical demonstration showing the full workflow for producing final topographic mapping deliverables from drone data. In addition, we will share critical lessons and best practices for surveyors to use drones for high-accuracy mapping as efficiently, effectively, and safely as possible.

Seminar Goals and Objectives

  1. Build a drone program that includes all necessary components to successfully and professionally use a drone as a survey tool.
  2. Create final topographic & planimetric survey deliverables (DTM with contours, break-lines, and feature linework) from drone-generated orthophotos and digital surface models.
  3. Confidently assess whether any given specific drone will meet the needs of their survey operation.
